The winner of the Bank of Ireland National Student Music Awards 2007, held at The Village last night, was:

Saviours Of Space.

The band made off with the spoils, quite a lot of spoils as it happens, in front of my pre-final favourites The Kinetiks

It has to be said that Saviours Of Space really hit the spot last night. This was the first time in all the years that I have been involved with the NSMA (since the beginning in 2001) that I have seen more than one Act awarded 10/10 and also the first time I have seen a completely unanimous decision among the Judges. Notwithstanding the fact that there were 12 judges from different areas of Music and Media, every single one of us had Saviours of Space as the overall winner.

I really have never seen an Act awarded marks as high and, bearing in mind that previous winners were Delorentos (who coincindetally launched their album on the same night as the NSMA 2007 final) and Lotus Lullaby (now The Gift, signed to Religion Music), this gives you an idea of the level of the performance from this year's NSMA winner.
Even some members of other bands were praising the evetual winners. One band member (no names, to protect the poor lad) said 'There was no chance we were going to beat them, the way the played' while another comment from the competition was 'Great night for everyone concerned, and a rightful winner'
