28.02.2007: ... and we have a winner ...:Ron, IrishUnsigned

more news... back to home page...

The winner of the two tickets for the Choice Music Prize in Vicar Street tonight is:

Marina Corsini, from Kilcock, Kildare.

With a name like that, my guess is that there is some Italian connection there. Which, of course, gives me the chance to say "Well Done, Italy" for their destruction of Scotland in the Rugby on Saturday. This, as if it was planned, gives me the excuse, on a music-related website, to mention the 'other' match that happened on Saturday. Not the France V Wales match; the other one. The one where we stuffed England. Sorry, not 'stuffed' England. I meant 'destroyed' England.

Has a nice ring to it, eh?

Anyway, Marina and a 'friend' (ahem!) will be guests at the most credible music award event in the Irish music calendar. In only it's second year, the Choice Music Prize has already been hailed as the most critically accepted album prize in Ireland, given that it is totally open to any Artist in any genre, has no 'sales' qualifying criteria, and is selected by Industry watchers who have no ties to the labels and publishers. It is about as 'open' as it is possible to get in Irish music

The following shortlisted acts will perform on the night:
Director
The Divine Comedy
Duke Special
The Immediate
David Kitt
Messiah J & The Expert
Republic Of Loose
Si Schroeder.

The two absentees are Snow Patrol, who will be in the midst of a sell-out American tour, and Fionn Regan who will be on an Australian tour which includes support slots with Damien Rice and appearances on the Laneway Festival.

Long live 'Choice'
