Choice Music Prize – Irish Album of the Year 2006

The shortlist for the Choice Music Prize – Irish Album of the Year 2006 was announced on the evening of Wednesday 10 January 2007.

The nominated albums are as follows (albums in alphabetical order):
Director “We Thrive On Big Cities” (Atlantic)
The Divine Comedy “Victory for the Comic Muse” (Parlophone)
Duke Special “Songs From the Deep Forest (V2)
The Immediate “In Towers & Clouds” (Fantastic Plastic)
David Kitt “Not Fade Away” (Dublin Discs)
Messiah J & The Expert “Now This I Have To Hear” (Inaudible)
Fionn Regan “The End Of History” (Heffa)
Republic Of Loose “Aaagh!” (Loaded Dice)
Si Schroeder “Coping Mechanisms” (Trust Me I’m A Thief)
Snow Patrol “Eyes Open” (Polydor)

The shortlist has been selected by a panel of 12 Irish music media professionals.

The overall Album of the Year will be selected by this judging panel at the Choice Music Prize event at Vicar Street, Dublin on Wednesday February 28th. The winning act will receive €10,000 - a prize which has been provided by the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) and the Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA).

The act will also receive a specially-commissioned award, courtesy of the Recorded Artists And Performers Ltd (RAAP).

The inaugural Choice Music Prize - Irish Album of the Year 2005 was won by Julie Feeney for her self-released 13 Songs debut. She has since signed a worldwide recording contract with Sony-BMG and seen sales for her album increase massively.

Tickets for the Choice Music Prize live event will go on sale from all Ticketmaster outlets on Monday January 22nd (price 25 euros, including booking fee). Full information on the acts who will be performing at the Choice Music Prize live event will be announced later this month.
