The New Wave of Irish Songwriters begins a series of dates with a gig in Whelan's of Wexford Street on Monday the 26th of January.

The series will feature a number of the top rising artists, along with a new twist on more established acts.

The 26th will feature Mark Greville, Eamon Mulvihill, Declan O'Brien and Matthew Devereux from The Pale.

Matthew Devereux formed The Pale in 1991. Their first album "Here's One We Made Earlier" and singles "Dogs With No Tails" and "Butterfly" made inroads critically and commercially. But by 1994 the band took to their own road to follow the Independent trail with the launch of their label 'Gudenfast' with eps, singles and the album "Spudgun". Internationally The Pale played live across Europe, America and the Far East. Matthew has just released a solo electronica album called "Tap Tap Tap" and will be performing tracks from this album on the night. www.thepale.ie

Mark Greville is an ex-member of the noted rock band Zeel, and guitarist with Dublin high flyers Ginseng. Zeel scored a number of impressive achievements, a top forty hit with their single Best Things/Lights Out, and a number of high profile appearances, culminating in IMRO’s Best of Irish Unsigned night in Vicar St. playing with artists such as Leya and Damien Rice. The show was presented by Dave Fanning, and Zeel featured on his radio show, as well as national night time radio and TV3's Champions League Football. Mark is currently putting together tracks together for his debut album, which he plans to release in the new year, as well as releasing the Ginseng debut long player. www.markgreville.com

Eamon Mulvihill is one of the fastest rising stars on the Irish singer-songwriter scene, and he hails from Co Meath. A veteran of the live scene, he has supported such luminaries as Paddy Casey, Damien Rice as well as being a regular on the Aslan bill. He received Demo of the Fortnight from Hot Press Magazine, describing it as ‘tasteful pop-rock...complete with tuneful verses, intelligent lyrics and a catchy melody’. Eamon has recently released his debut single 'Fly with Me', and rounded December off by appearing with Aslan in Vicar Street on the 30th. www.eamonmul.com

Declan O Brien is a Cork born singer songwriter now based in Dublin. He has received much industry interest including record companies Warner bros, Sony music and Satanta records. He is currently building his profile playing support gigs to the likes of The 4 of us, Aslan, The Devlins, Damian Dempsey and Babelfish while also doing his own headline gigs in Cork's lobby bar and The Halfmoon club. Declan programs and plays all the instruments for his songs which he records and produces in his own studio. He is currently working on his debut EP with Karl Odlum, and plans to release it in April.
