Ireland’s hit battle-of-the-bands show, Deis Roc is returning to our screens this Tuesday the 15th of January 2008 at 11.00pm on TG4.

This second series of Deis Roc, which was recorded in the Students Union at Queens University (Belfast) will feature 16 of Ireland’s best new unsigned bands, who will be put through their paces as they compete to be crowned “Deis Roc Champoins 2008”, taking home the grand prize of €10,000.

The bands that make it past each knock-out stage of the competition will be picked by the viewing public, by way of a text vote. Helping the voters make their decisions will be our panel of Judges; founding member of the Horslips and radio producer with RTE, Jim Lockhart; Rónán Ó Snodaigh of Kíla and Karen Kirby, presenter and director with BBC Northern Ireland.

Presenting the show will be Síle Ní Bhraonáin, TG4’s leading presenter of young people’s programming. Deis Roc viewers will be treated to all kinds of rock music, ranging from folk and acoustic style to indie and heavy rock. However, regardless of style/ genre, all of the Deis Roc bands will be performing their music in Irish, as well as in English.

Voting for your favourite band on Deis Roc is very simple. Text the name of the band that you want to go through to 53500 (ROI) or 83222 (NI). Sky customers in Northern Ireland will find TG4 on channel 177. TG4 is also available on channel 877 on Virgin Media (cable) Belfast.

Kicking off the first show will be Captain Kennedy from Armagh, who have already gained a loyal following in Belfast and further afield, and Wasted Case of Kildare, who’s singer/ bass player Andy Kavanagh can be seen in the new TG4 drama series “Seacht”.

Deis Roc is a co-production between Tobar Productions and Green Inc Film and Television.
