For the past number of years, both the Irish charts and live music scene have been kind of like a train-wreck?.you know you shouldn?t, you know you don?t want to, but something tells you that you just have to look and when you actually do, what you see is not pretty...but there?s seemingly nothing you can do about it, the damage is already done. Right?

In such an environment, where the manufactured pop band is King and weak dance outfits dominate national and international airwaves, many people seem more than happy to listen to programmed blips and clicks passing itself off as music, and the industry doesn?t to want to do anything about it?generally because it?s too busy ,laughing all the way to the bank.

Enter Redtwelve, Dundalk?s answer to ?well, pretty much everything. The five piece, formed three years ago when members Peter Walters (lead guitar), Brendan Duffy (bass), Keith Mulholland (drums), and Paul Mullen (rhythm guitar) got together with Cork born Ciaran Boylan (vocals) to form one of the most innovative and powerful live bands this country has seen in an extraordinarily long time.

Redtwelve have played with a number of established bands such as Bell X1, Relish, Turn, Indigo Fury and Josh Ritter. They have headlined The Spirit Store in their hometown, not to mention the Temple Bar Music Centre, Eamon Doran?s, and the Voodoo Lounge in Dublin?and the results have always been the same - their audience literally stunned into submission by the sheer force and passion of the band?s ?blood sweat and tears? approach to live performance.

Redtwelve?s sound combines breathtaking vocals with the kind of intense, raw, frenetic energy that?s so rare in the current musical climate and is a concept alien to many of the so-called ?established? acts around today. Ciaran Boylan possesses a lyric strength and twisted genius that far outstretch his years, which he crafts and blends with the band?s overall sound with surgical skill.

Redtwelve released their debut single ?Calling?, in April 2003 which won the Hot Press ?Demo of the Fortnight?. The three song recording featured the title track, along with the delightfully infectious ?Be Someone?, and the full on, rock-out ?Eyes of Demons?. As a direct result of the release, Redtwelve were asked to record a Fanning Session in early 2003 and since then they have been touring intermittently and planning further recordings.

All too often, a band will emerge from the underground scene, showing a genuine promise, only to fizzle entirely out or worse?settle for ?local hero? status. Don?t just keep an eye out, don?t just scan the airwaves?.stand up and pay attention. You?ll be hearing from Redtwelve very soon.
