divebomb is a three-piece dublin band who's music has been described as 'blistering powerpop' by Irelands premier music magazine, hotpress. performing together for several years as ?big tin shed?, they prompted peter murphy, one of irelands top music journalists, to write: "..big tin shed are on the right track, pursuing a skilful synthesis of melody and mood that?d make bob mould proud...think of weller at his most buttoned down. think the attractions backing frank black. ...if only they'd change that blasted name." they did and retreated to a studio in the hills of wicklow to produce their first album, divebomb, which was well received by media & record companies on its release. the album was recorded and produced on a shoestring budget by the band itself and the whole experience gave the band an insight into honing and directing their own sound on their own terms. that insight is now being put to full use as the band work on their second album. the styles are more varied this time around but the sound is more defined and a pre-release cd is expected this autumn with the album to follow later in the year. in the meantime the band will emerge from the studio during the coming months to return to the gig circuit. in the studio, divebomb may be accused of indulging in quiet and melodic moments. on stage however, they are a different proposition with live performances that have been noted for their energy fuelled by guitar driven power-pop. according to hotpress: "the band don?t dally, tearing into a fistful of songs that wear their references (the jam, the smithereens) with pride. is this paddypop? well, if that means punchy playing and sharp arrangements, yes it is. and i?m all for it!" recently, divebomb have bridged the gap between recording and live performance by recording some of their live favourites, including ?you? and ?radio girl?, which will feature on their forthcoming release.
