polar, based in dublin, ireland; were conceived in june of 2001 while two of the members were sitting their leaving certificate exams. between exams and study the band began to write and rehearse and by mid-july had a set of 5 songs. since then polar have been writing, rehearsing and recording on a constant basis, just taking breaks to play in all of dublin's top venues and some around the country. their debut single 'south' was released in march of 2002 and received much acclaim. stations such as phantom fm and x fm gave the single great support in dublin with it also receiving play on fm 104's sunday rock show. recently polar have discovered that they have been receiving generous play on kuci.org 88.9fm a college radio station broadcasting from irvine, california. ‘south’ was voted as the 12th best song of 2002 by the phantom fm listeners polar have just finished their first fanning session which was aired on the 4th of may 2003 on 2fm throughout ireland. the session featured ‘they had names’, ‘health and safety’ and ‘the comfortable silences’. at the moment, polar are working on the recording of a new batch of songs including, ‘untitled’ and 'butterflies' which they hope to release before the end of 2003. the band are relocating to galway for the summer where they are to write and record new material. thank you for your interest and in the band, if you would like any further information please contact michael o’connell on 087 918 94 98 or info@polarofficial.com “one of the best debut singles to come my way recently is dublin outfit polar’s ‘south’, which mixes piano-balladry with guitar-driven rock to telling effect, as the band show a keen understanding of dynamics.” -John Walshe, Sunday World (Metro Mag. 21/4/02)
