Born in West Cork, Anto’ (Anthony Noonan) is no stranger to music. Starting early, at the age of only thirteen, Anto’ was drumming seven nights a week and gainied experience playing alongside the likes of Bill Shanley (The Mary Black Band), Niamh Kavanagh and Paul Harrington (Eurovision winners) and Lynn Ryan. In college Anto’ studied Music, Management and Sound Engineering which opened his eyes even further to the music world, and is also where he met current Anto’ member Keith Clancy (bass, percussion, vocals). Lorcan Mac Muiris completes the line-up on trumpet, as Anto’ fronts the band not only as singer, but also as guitarist and drummer. Before Anto’ was conceived a move to Limerick was on the cards where Anthony become drummer for ‘Catcher and the Rye’. Performing in established venues such as Whelans, Dolans and de Barra’s to name but a few, and a two year stint of rehearsing, recording and touring abroad, Anthony decided to leave the drums behind for a change in his musical path. Returning to West Cork in 2002 Anto’ invented his own style of song writing and eventually unveiled his show in January 2003. In June, after only six months of gigging, Anto’ released his debut album ‘Faster’ to outstanding reviews. Touring and promoting the album dominated the Summer schedule, a highlight of which was being included in the line-up for the return of Lisdoonvarna in the RDS. In 2003 Anto’ also toured Ireland with Roesy and appeared as guest drummer for Cork band ‘Fred’ at last year’s Witness Festival. ‘Faster’ also features Phil Gledhill on cornet, and Matt Churchill on guitar and was produced by Anto’ with Keith Clancy. “Positivity, happiness and the silver lining??? are the strongest themes found on such songs as ‘Faster’, ‘Walking’ and ‘Sunsets in China’, and according to Anto’ ‘My Friend the Bird’is a song written about the imaginative daydreams of a boy who longs to dance with the birds. Anto’ also took inspiration from various personal experiences; ‘Green Ink’ documents the aftermath and burning positivity of a bad break-up. 2004 saw Anto’ gigging and recording a lot and is in pre-production for the follow up to Faster which is due out later in 2005.
