02.03.2007: Lotus Lullaby sign to Religion Music:Gavin Dunne

more news... back to home page...

Hello everyone,

After a lengthy delay I can finally tell you all everything that’s been going on with Lotus in the last few months.

I’ll begin with the news that we have signed to Religion Music (http://www.religionmusic.com). They are the only Irish label who specialize in breaking bands in the USA and the UK in many different styles and genres. To date they have recently secured an American deal with another of their artists, rock chick Lesley Roy. She has been taken up by Jive (home of Justin Timberlake, Bullet for my Valentine, Bowling for Soup etc etc…) which is the first time in years that an Irish artist has signed to a U.S. major.

If I’m not mistaken The Corrs were the last one… They also hooked up pop artist Shelly with the woman who managed Madonna for 13 years, and their current project, singer songwriter Michael Roche is gaining serious U.S. and UK major label interest and has already made Record of the Day. Now they want to work with a rock band and that’s where we come in.

Due to this track record we feel they are definitely the right label for us at this time as they are the only Irish label we feel can break us in the U.S. as that is where we aim for. They have the contacts and experience to make this project huge on an international scale and we are extremely excited about it.

The other good news is that to break the U.S. market, we have seen fit to focus on our heavier, darker, rockier material which in our hearts we all prefer playing. They are supporting us 100% in pursuing this style and we are currently recording and mixing our first album with them, which should be finished by the end of May. It may or may not get an Irish release before we head to the U.S. with it.

The other big news is that we are changing our name. This is a decision the band was thinking about for a long time as we felt we needed a name that was simpler and more representative of our musical style. Our new name is ‘The Gift’ and you can find us at

We will have some tracks up on the myspace site very soon; we promise it will be worth the wait!

Finally, sadly Conor has decided that a career in music is not for him and is going to go back to college. We support him 100% in his decision and wish him the best in the future. We’ll be sending him off in style at our final gig as lotus lullaby which will be in Cyprus Avenue as special guests at the Banl of Ireland National Student Music Awards (www.nsma.ie) cork leg on March 29th. We will also be playing the Galway leg on March 22nd in Cuba. Tickets for these are gonna fly so get them early.

So there you have it, it’s been a crazy eventful few months but I am sure that with a lot of hard work and some luck you’ll be hearing a lot more from us by the end of this year.

Thank you to everyone who has come to gigs and supported us until now, we could never have done any of this without you people!

Gav and Lotus Lullaby, (or soon to be known as The Gift).
