New York four-piece The Rapture set to headline the exclusive Irish launch of Coca-Cola & Apple’s Music Partnership

Unsigned bands use www.coke.com/music as an exciting new Platform to showcase their music.

DUBLIN November 22, 2006 –The Rapture are set to headline the exclusive Irish launch of Coca-Cola and Apple iTunes recently launched music partnership on November 30th. Riding high on the success of their album ‘Pieces of the People We Love’ and fresh from receiving the accolade of ‘Gig of the Year’ by New York magazine for one of their recent shows, The Rapture take a detour from their sell-out European tour with The Killers to headline the Coke Gig at The Village.
To celebrate the announcement of Coca-Cola and iTunes, Coke has been hosting a series of ‘live’ events across Europe. New York Band, The Rapture will headline the exclusive Irish launch at The Village on Thursday 30th November.

Support for The Rapture comes from The Blizzards, whose album “A Public Display of Affection debuted at No. 4 in the Irish album Charts. The Mullingar rockers’ star is firmly in the ascendant and on the back of their Top Five placement The Blizzards have gone on to receive two Meteor Nominations, Best New Irish act and Best Irish album.

A Vodcast and selected live songs from The Rapture’s performance at The Village next week will be available exclusively, and free to download from www.coke.com/music the week following the event. Tickets to this special invitation only gig will also be made available to a select number of music fans via online, print and broadcast promotions.
Founded by Luke Jenner and Vitto Roccoforte in 1998, The Rapture found recognition in 2002 with the breakout single "House of Jealous Lovers." The single spun in clubs worldwide and catapulted the band to a major label deal for their debut album, ‘Echoes’. Their return with a new long player is the result of collaborative studio sessions with industry heavy weights such as Paul Epworth (Bloc Party, Futureheads), Ewan Pearson (mixer for Chemical Brothers, Depeche Mode and Gwen Stefani) and Danger Mouse (Gnarls Barkley Project). Last seen in Ireland during Festival season, this intimate indoor show at The Village is a real treat for music fans.

Coca-Cola and the world’s leading online music store – iTunes, announced details of their unique music partnership back in September and since then, Unsigned Bands all over Europe have been uploading their music to the innovative new music site, www.coke.com/music . One of the key differentiators for www.coke.com/music is that all the music uploaded is then judged monthly by a Panel of Music Industry Experts and the best of each Country’s Music uploads are then featured on an exclusive Coke & iTunes Monthly Music Podcast. Jenny Heuston will host Irelands Podcast. There will also be a pan European Podcast hosted by XFM DJ’s Adam & Joe which takes the best tracks from each country and pulls them together in one Eclectic European Mix. All Podcasts are available to download by the www.coke.com/music Community - all over Europe

Jenny Heuston, 2FM DJ commented; “There are so many new Irish bands out there with the talent but no platform. Coke and iTunes are offering a unique platform for new talent to reach out to fans at a grassroots level, while showcasing their music at an industry level. The time to get involved is now, the audience is waiting.

Coca Cola’s commitment to nurturing breaking talent is long term, and with its Music Programme ‘Blast Beat’ already underway in schools across Ireland, Coca-Cola’s new site is just another pioneering way for unsigned bands to break into the music scene. Over the coming months Coca-Cola will announce further developments that will again provide further opportunities for Unsigned Irish bands to show their talent.

Speaking about the partnership, Gavin O’ Doherty, Brand Manager Coca-Cola said "This is such a great partnership for Coca-Cola and Apple iTunes. Already the site has generated real interest among unsigned Irish Acts. Together with iTunes we are creating a new, unique and credible platform which gives local Unsigned Irish talent the chance to share their music at a local and European level. Having an act such as The Rapture in Dublin to ‘officially’ launch the Coca Cola/iTunes partnership is very exciting for us.
