During the mid to late seventies, and into the eighties, some exceptional rock n roll acts made their way to the top of the local pile. Some even went on to get themselves a national platform.

Bands like Taxi and later Neuro were to blaze a trail. Hot on the heels came The Village and acts like Wave Assembly. An organisation called Music Moves were to gain a foothold in promotion and brought some astonishing acts to town for very little cover charge for punters who quite literally hadnt a bob. Bands like The Smiths played the then Savoy.

A project well underway in Waterford at present is the launch of a CD under the brilliant title 051, featuring the best of the original material from many of the Waterford bands who celebrated life, tough as it was, back then

The launch will be in The Bowery on the 22nd September - stick it in your diary - the night itself is bound to be a blast with performances by some of Waterfords best and, we are sure, an absolute abundance of memories will pour forth. WLRs Roddy Cleere is one of those who has charted and championed the progress of Waterford acts over the years and he will host a programme about the whole event on WLR on Friday 15thSeptember which will be well worth a listen.(WWW.WLRFM.COM)

All proceeds from CD sales etc will go to an incredibly deserving cause, The South East Cancer Foundation, who provide a mammoth service to those who need it.
