As regular readers will know, the critically-acclaimed 'Choice Music Prize' is up for grabs on Wednesday next in Dublin's Vicar Street. The nominees for the award - critically evaluated as the ten best Irish albums from the last year, not a SMS-vote or a sales award - can be yours for the taking.

Answer a simple question and you could be the winner of the ten albums. Two runners-up will get five each of the albums.

The ten Acts/Albums are as follows:
Adrian Crowley "Long Distance Swimmer" (Tin Angel)
Cathy Davey "Tales Of Silversleeve" (EMI)
Delorentos "In Love With Detail" (Cottage)
Dry County "Unexpected Falls" (Lazybird)
The Flaws "Achieving Vagueness" (Arrivals)
David Geraghty "Kill Your Darlings" (Decal)
Kila "Gambler's Ballet" (Kila Records)
Roisin Murphy "Overpowered" (EMI)
Stanley Super 800 "Louder & Clearer" (Sofa)
Super Extra Bonus Party "Super Extra Bonus Party" (Alphabet Set)

In order to be in with a chance of winning this collection of Ireland's finest, which includes some very, very interesting material, simply tell us - before 7pm on Wednesday February 27th, who the judges will choose as the overall winner. You should send an email to competition@irishunsigned.com with your answer IN THE SUBJECT LINE OF THE EMAIL so we don't have to open every email. The body of the email should contain your name and address.

If you are interested in a small punt on the outcome, Paddy Power are offering odds. If you decided to place a bet, open an account on paddypower.com from the link on our main page and you will be given a free €20 bet if you place a €10 bet. Two bets for the price of one. My tenner is on Super Extra Bonus Party (an outsider) and my free tweny quid bet is on Cathy Davey (the favourite). You will only get this free extra bet if you register by clicking the link our main page

Before jumping to the obvious conclusion, note that the favourites didn't win it last year, nor the year before. In fact, it's been won by outsiders both times (Julie Feeney and The Divine Comedy)

Remember, send your answer in the SUBJECT line of an email to competition@irishunsigned.com before 7pm on Wednesday February 27th.

Tickets for the event are almost sold out. The last few are available on Ticketmaster.ie but if you can't get along to Vicar Street on the night, tune into Today FM (in Ireland) or www.todayfm.com to listen live to performances from the ten nominated Acts, as well as the announcement of the overall winner.

(incidentally, we had intended to give three winners all ten albums, but some of the labels responsible for the Acts never responded to our request for review/competition copies of the Albums, so we only have three each of ten albums, and had to source the rest of the albums ourselves. Just goes to show how unimportant we poor little beggars are in the grand scheme of the Irish music Industry. So we must be doing something right, eh?)
