David Hope was born in the West of Ireland in the early 1980’s. He began creating music at an early age. David was drawn back in time to the sounds of blues, folk, rock and roots music – Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Paul Simon and Tom Petty. He left Ireland in 1998 and honed his musical skills at the London School of Music. Returning home he played to audiences anywhere from street corners and pubs to theatres and television.

He has supported many national and international artists including Mary Black, Jack L and most recently the legendary Mary Coughlan. It was following appearances on national television and the release of an EP that he attracted the attention of Mr Terry Woods of Sweeny’s Men and the Pogues. The timing was right and the chemistry between Terry and David resulted in the production by Terry of David’s first studio album entitled ‘ a picture’.

The album was recorded in a small studio in West Cork. The production is as close to a live/acoustic sound as you can get. Terry Woods has captured a refreshing organic roots sound that reflects the heart of David’s music and lyrics. The empathy between producer and writer has resulted in an acoustic studio album that will withstand the test of time.

David has a distinctive musical persona that marks him out in this age of manufactured bands. His songs create an atmospheric portrayal of deep emotion. All of the songs on the album have been written by David Hope.

David is joined on the album by a number of extremely talented musicians including Terry Woods on mandolin and 5 string banjo, Paul Harrigan on accordion and fiddle, Olly ‘the kid’ Betts (from band The Duke of Spirit) on drums. David is joined on some vocals by a young singer/songwriter Louise McMahon. Mary Coughlan joins him on backing vocals on track 10.
