Artist history: In the summer of 1998, a group of friends from the small parish of Kilanerin in North County Wexford started to meet on friday nights in a local pub to talk and play music. REM, Pearl Jam, U2 & Radiohead were among those bands debated about and copied on acoustic guitars. Sing-a-longs led to music battles with local accordian & spoon players. Two of the group, Barry Hughes & Ronan Mythen, decided to play some of their own songs in local venues. The duo picked up various awards in talent competitions and went on to play some gigs in local pubs including the 21st birthday party of their good friend, Ciaran O'Sullivan. However, over the years 2001-03 the meetings gradually tapered off - mainly due to the lack of venues to play original material in the Gorey Area. In 2003, Poole's Porter House in Gorey began to stage gigs for local performers on Friday nights, ‘The Cellar Sessions’. One rule applied to these sessions - no cover songs allowed! Dusting off the cobwebs off their songs, Barry & Ronan decided to play an open microphone night in Poole's on Friday December 4th. With their own style of guitar and bass acoustic melodies and dual vocal styles, they received a great reception and pale biscuit was back! They played in Poole's again in January and headlined their first gig there in April 2004 to launch their web site. Now after buying a new PA system of their own and trading in their old instruments, the duo are recording demos of their own songs which are available on an e.p. and via their web site, palebiscuit.com. They plan to record the songs for professional release on an e.p. or album in 2004 and to play some more gigs.
