Sawubona ( Hello/Welcome in Zulu) grew out of a co- operation between members of The Dublin Drum Circle and The Dun Laoghaire Refugee Project, coming together for our first gig at an event for International Refugee Day in June 2003. Our membership is fluid around a core of 8 drummers and percussionists and has included players from Nigeria, Mexico, Germany, France, Ireland and Italy While the intention is to have fun, the philosophy is to promote the sharing of differing cultural heritages through the drumming experience. The powerful African rhythms on djembe , bell and shaker produce a fast moving , hypnotic, rhythmic sound that invites the audience to dance and enjoy the music with us. We got very positive feedback from recent appearances at The Festival of World Cultures in Dun Laoghaire and at an Optical Avenues event in the Bank of Ireland Art?s Centre in Dublin and are now ready to broaden our audience. Anyone looking for a new dynamic exciting support act contact us.
