Hi there! I am from Gorey, in Co. Wexford, and started playing guitar and writing songs when I was 16..I'm 27 now. I listened to songwriters like Leonard Cohen and Nick Drake a lot when I was younger, and was really into The Beatles.I've always loved singer songwriters, and these days am especially interested in the likes of India Arie, Erykah Badu and Devendra Banhart. I am trying to write songs that can appeal to many people, and I like to mix with other styles. In 'Communication' there are tablas, the 'The Orange Tree' sounds quite bluesy, though I still have a distinctly Irish flavour..:-) I moved to Dublin in 1997 to go to college, and played at various open mics around Dublin.. though at that time, I was quite shy to perform live. At the end of 2001 I moved to South Korea to teach English. I joined a band there, just for fun at first, comprising of 6 Koreans and myself. We called ourselves Second Moon. After 2 years together, we released our first album in Korea, which won 3 awards at the 2006 Korean Music Awards. The music can be descrobed as 'Ethnic Fusion' as all the members were very interested in various forms of World Music. The whole experience of living there for 5 years and playing with such talented multi-instrumentalists was fantastic, and made me realise that I have a lot to learn musically. The whole band came to Ireland in August 2006,and we travelled around the country, busking and playing in sessions all over. The band members are crazy about Irish traditional music, so it was a great way for them to meet and play with Irish musicians. After a month, the band went back to Korea, and I moved to Cork to study music. I went back to Korea at Christmas to do some gigs with them, and then came back when college started up again in January. I'm doing the course in Music, Management and Sound at Colaiste Stiofain Naofa in Cork. I really wanted to do it for a number of reasons. Firstly, after 5 years away, I felt it would be good to come home and kind of put some roots down for a while, and I wanted to study music theory so that I could really understand what I was writing. Also, from an industry point of view, I wanted to study music management so I could understand how the industry actually works as a whole. Part of the course is studying sound engineering and recording..I have to admit it's not my strong point, but it's very definitely beneficial! Mostly, I want to concentrate on my own music, and try to etablish a solo career. In March of this year, my song 'Communication' was featured on Colaiste Stiofain Naofa's compilation album 'Open/Play/Listen' which was relesed under the new college label, Stepping Stone Records. Baby steps..but it's a start!:-) That's all really, feel free to contact me on any points...thanks!
