Artists Biography / History / Notes:
NB: Do NOT use apostrophes (') in the following as this will cause problems later
Since 1994, Mark has been teaching guitar to students of all ages and abilities. Originally from Monkstown in Dublin, his musical training was initially on the piano. It was during this period he learnt to read and write music and developed an astute knowledge of musical theory. His students have benefited immensely from this. In 1997 he took a well-earned break from the music industry and returned to college in Athlone where, 5 years later, he graduated with a BSc. in Computer & Software Engineering. 2 weeks after finishing his final exams, he was gainfully employed as a programmer with Qubos in Dublin's Sandyford Industrial Estate, where he still hangs out (Mon - Fri) today. Over the years Mark has learnt numerous styles and at present maintains an unmatched versatility. He is capable of moving seamlessly through all styles: country / rock / folk / blues / jazz / reggae and bluegrass. He also demonstrates a variety of traditional guitar techniques including Spanish and Irish. This versatility is reflected in the live set which he now plays, the backing tracks for which he recorded, mixed and mastered himself. Apart from his obvious ability on guitar he has also spent years developing a very unique song writing style which he attributes to his life-long love of poetry. Indeed he was the founder member and President of the Athlone Institute of Technology Poetry Society in 1998. Some of his most recent work is set to be recorded in early 2004 with a view to releasing his debut EP.
